Dry conditions lead to Doney Park wildfire
By Daily Sun Staff
04/06/07
A Doney Park resident’s controlled burn got out of hand Thursday afternoon, and fire crews were called out to quell the blaze before any damage or injuries happened.

According to information from the Summit Fire Department, a resident on the 9400 block of Skeet started the controlled burn, but wind and dry conditions fanned the fire out of control.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had grown to about 1 1/2 acres and was nearing a home and a building on the property. Crews on five engines and one water tender took 20 minutes to douse the fire.

The fire is the second controlled burn by a resident that has gotten out of hand in one week.

Summit fire officials would like to remind residents that conditions are dry and to take appropriate precautions while burning.
